The retreat was organized in Jerusalem Children and Community Development (JeCCDO) Training Facility in Bishoftu from December 14-15, 2017. A largely positive feedback was received from participants on the venue and service provided by the facility. Moreover we learnt that the income for the facility will be channeled for community development implemented by JeCCDO in the surrounding area.

In the highlands of Bale region in Ethiopia, the grain harvest is in full swing. Roads are busy with modern agricultural machinery the grain is harvested large scale. Only 100 kilometers away, in the dry plains a major famine is looming. During the previous rainy season there was so little rain that the crops of many farmers failed.

Livelihoods project improves relations between refugees and hosts in Ethiopia

The refugees have changed the life of Mahmud Ismael Merdane (65), an Ethiopian farmer in Awbarre town, close to the Somali border. Merdane is a participant in a farming livelihoods project of ACT member The Lutheran World Federation (LWF) in Awbarre refugee camp. He has given land to refugees for farming and received seeds, tools and irrigation farming training in return.
